Luckily that individual is hands off of that project these days. I also remember when it was ran by an individual who was a bit of a prick and then had a hissy fit and tried to delete the entire thing from the internet and required devoted community members to coax him back into "allowing" everyone to enjoy FAF. Originally posted by T-Bone Biggins:I remember when we used to get shameless advertising posts for FAF all the time. C&C Tiberian Sun tried to have a rating applied to each attack script, evaluating the success, lowering the value of failed attack scripts until they'd only be executed rarely. Imo instead of attack waves the AI should rather have a lot of smaller unit groups to try different strategies with and it should 100% avoid to send units right into shielded defenses that they have no chance against, especially if that has already happened some times. It's also completely miserable at protecting it's ACU. All the AI does is sit in it's base and wait to be killed, rebuilding anything that was destroyed exactly the way it was before without ever reacting to anything going on in battle other than via buildscript like "player has >20 air units (tech 2) = build 40 anti air units (tech 2)". If the player keeps the same unit- and tech composition and -amounts the AI doesn't even at one point try anything new, like build forward bases for siege / logistics or send an experimental, no matter how much time has passed. The AI doesn't ever really try to strategically place units, avoid defenses, bypass shields, nuke unprotected areas, overcome shields with artillery / bombarding instead of sending generic attack waves to their death the #999th time, doesn't try to attack key structures instead of dealing with the 1st thing that comes into sight, sends units to support other units (AA to aid pure land units) and rarely sends mixed unit groups or tries sneaky strategies. It'd be better if the map was at maximum size right from the start with ongoing battles that are scripted in a way to go on eternally but look like actual combat and if secondary objectives would feel rewarding instead of mostly pointless, by offering some meaningful reward, like a tech unlock, additional resource spots or at least a unit cap increase and if main objectives would progress the events on the map via new AI behaviour, new techs, a unit cap increase and new objectives.Īlso I'm confused what's up with this attack wave sending of the AI:Īll this achieves is that the AI constantly loses it's units and feeds the player resources. Also, due to the unit spawning, it's a big advantage to know what's coming. It merely blocks actual gameplay by suddenly spawning units, including an initial attack wave on each map expansion, which always forces the player to fortify instead of playing adaptive. Not to forget the co-op ability which is really nice.I spent some thoughts about the campaign and think the map expansion, which is a main feature of the game, does it no good. It increased the difficulty a bit (it seems) and it has a timer which can make the missions even more difficult if you want. Please update your news with information that the other client is no longer supported and the website with the correct download version of "Downlord's" client instead of the old 0.8 beta that it still tries to hand to users ! As the current client comes with a complete installer anyway it's not really an update of the old one that needs to be installed first but a complete overwrite.ĭisable autologin. still tries to hand you the 0.8 beta version of "Downlord's" client instead of the most recent one info missing that the other client that isn't "Downlord's" client is no longer supported and thus it tries to download the patch over and over on game creation Worse: If I manually call the Faforever website it still has the 0.8 beta version of "Downlord's" client for download while a newer version is available. Yet this information is nowhere on the news. That is because obviously the other client isn't supported anymore and instead it's expected to use "Downlord's" client instead. Since this topic is up: Ever since the latest patch the game tries to download the file over and over again on every game created if you're using the other client that isn't "Downlord's" client.
